TAI CHI, QIGONG, AND YIQUAN

We are committed to providing resources for those who wish to improve their health and maintain their wellbeing.  Devon offers ongoing classes in tai chi and qigong as well as seminars and workshops in health and healing. These practices are based on the concept of Qi (vital energy). By improving the flow of Qi through our bodies we allow ourselves to connect to Universal Qi. This connection is the basis of true health and wellbeing. Connection to Universal Qi brings with it a profound sense of integrity, deep relaxation and bountiful energy.

The teacher, Devon Hornby, draws on over thirty years of experience in the martial and healing arts to provide practical and functional tools for personal growth and transformation. Devon has studied under numerous internal gongfu and qigong teachers and currently studies with and teaches in the style of Sifu Fong Ha.

On Mondays Devon is offering a Tai Chi Qigong class at Third Coast Martial Arts (8108 Mesa Drive) from 11:30 am to 12:30pm. This class covers the basic curriculum of Integral Chuan as taught by Sifu Fong Ha. The class consists of standing meditation, qigong, yiquan and tai chi movement. The class is well suited for practitioners of all levels, beginners are encouraged to attend. The classes will be $60 a month. For more information or to register click here.

TAI CHI

Tai chi is famous as a means of exercise, relaxation and meditation. More than just a series of movements, tai chi is a way using our bodies which is at the same time relaxed and powerful. Devon’s tai chi classes focus on establishing integrated strength and central equilibrium. Integrated strength allows us to carryout our daily activities with power, grace and mindfulness. Central equilibrium is a state of balance which goes far beyond the physical.

YIQUAN

A profound development in Asian healing and martial arts, yiquan fosters profound strength and an unwavering sense of wellbeing. Based on the practice of standing meditation yiquan is simple, easy to learn and provides a lifetime of personal growth and transformation. Yiquan is the foundational practice of Devon’s tai chi classes.

“Yiquan is the return to that unadulterated state in which no disease can exist, no attacker can assail, and through which the beauty of life can shine.”

QIGONG

The practice of Qigong concerns itself with freeing the flow of qi (vital energy) in the body. Qigong practices include standing and movement exercises, meridian yoga, and meditation. Qigong is a profound means of fostering a sense of peace and harmony within that radiates out into our world benefiting both ourselves and others. Qigong is taught in all of Devon’s tai chi classes. He also offers seminars on various types of qigong and qigong healing.

SIFU FONG HA

Sifu Fong Ha has been practicing Chinese internal arts since his childhood and has studied with many renowned teachers. He began his studies of Yang-style Taijiquan in 1953 with Tung Ying-chieh, and continued with Yang Sau-chung, the eldest son of Yang Cheng-fu. Fong’s exploration then led into the realm of Yiquan. One of the few Yiquan teachers in the West, Fong Ha is well known for his power, graciousness, and cosmopolitan charm. With humor and insight, he encourages students to be true to themselves, to recognize their inner strengths, develop at their own pace, and actualize their potentials. He directs the Integral Chuan Institute in Berkeley, California and teaches nationally and internationally. He is the author of Yiquan and the Nature of Energy: The fine art of doing nothing and achieving everything (Berkeley: Summerhouse Publications, 1996). He also produced the video, Stillness in Movement: The Practice of T’ai Chi Chuan with Master Fong Ha (Vision Arts Video, 1996).

We host regular workshops taught by Fong Ha. For more information check our news page.
